Rahul was not shot from close range: FSL

MUMBAI: Forensic experts have given a clean chit to the police team which shot dead Rahul Raj, a Patna resident who hijacked a BEST bus at Kurla on
October 26. There was a political uproar following the shooting and some Bihar politicians had alleged that the youth was shot dead in cold blood. The state government then launched a formal inquiry into the shooting. TOI has a copy of the Forensic Sciences Laboratory (FSL) report, which was submitted to the police commissioner on Friday. It will be forwarded to the state home department. The chemical analysis report said that there was absence of blackening and powder residue around the periphery of bullet holes on Raj's skin. It further says that the injuries are far "beyond the powder range of the weapon''. This means that the bullets were fired from a distance of at least four to five metres. The three firearms -- a 303 rifle and two 9 mm pistols -- from which the bullets were shot at Rahul, were sent for ballistic examination. The ballistic expert report which is also attached with this report says that the police weapons were in perfect working condition, ruling out the theory that the firing was from close range. Four bullets, all fired from pistols, hit Rahul on his chest and face. The FSL expert also examined the BEST bus frame which was pierced by some bullets in the exchange of fire. "After examining everything in minute detail, it is now concluded that the police team fired from a safe distance of around five metres and above,'' said an FSL official on condition of anonymity. The officials of Grant Medical College also told chief secretary Johny Joseph during the inquiry that prima facie, Raj was not shot from pointblank or close range. Rahul Raj, who had held the BEST bus passenger hostage on October 26, on Andheri Kurla road was gunned down by the police. Rahul Raj had claimed that he had come to kill MNS chief Raj Thackeray over latter's drive against Biharis. Rahul had tried to strangulate the bus conductor and had even fired two rounds in which a passenger Manoj Bhagat received a bullet injury. A day after the post-mortem, Dr B G Chikhalkar, part of the post-mortem team, had said there was a dark mark around the bullet injury on the face, indicative of the fact that the bullet was fired from close range. But Dr Chikhalkar, who had repeated this statement on TV, soon retracted what he had said.

BJP Youth Activists Burn PM's Effigy

Activists of the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) Yuva Morcha in Patna on Wednesday burnt the effigy of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh accusing him and the UPA government at the Center of adopting pro-terrorist policies and fomenting anti-Hindu sentiments to seize Muslim votes for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.Calling Singh a sympathizer of Islamic terrorists supported by the Pakistani government, the protestors at the Dak Bungalow Crossing said the UPA government was playing with fire by insisting on destroying the Ram Setu."On one hand, the Sonia government is blocking the execution of convicted terrorist Afzal Guru, on the other hand it continues to walk all over the Hindu sentiments on Ram Setu and Amarnath Shrine issue," said Atul Kumar, the vice president of the BJP Yuva Morcha.Prem Ranjan Patel, the BJP legislator, accused the UPA government of indulging in Muslim appeasement politics to garner support in the next general elections."We are not going to roll over and play dead while Manmohan Singh and Sonia Gandhi trample all over our religious sentiments and beliefs while continuing to appease Muslims for pure political purposes," Patel said.

Police Nabs Five Hardcore Criminals

The police in Patna on Thursday, acting on a tip-off, nabbed five dreaded criminals wanted in a number of murder, robbery, and kidnapping cases in Patna, Hajipur, Fatuha, and Phulwarisharif, Town DSP Sanjay Singh said.As reported, Kishore Prasad of Jakkanpur, Rajkishore of Punpun, Jitendra Dubey a.k.a. Baba of Hajipur, Mikki of Kurthaul, and Bablu of Gaurichak had gathered near the water tank in Anta Ghat under Gandhi Maidan police station with the intention to abduct an affluent person coming out of posh Bankipore Club.Their nefarious scheme, however, came down crashing when a special task force led by Gandhi Maidan police station in-charge Nissar Ahmed surrounded the area and arrested the five men without any incident.A 9mm pistol, cartridges, and two cell phones were seized from their possession, the police said. The five men also confessed of hatching plans to rob a food warehouse near Rajendra Nagar overbridge, a kerosene shop owner in Hajipur, and a businessman in Pirmuhani area in Patna. The criminals also admitted of killing a hardware shop owner in Jakkanpur area, killing the son of Phulwari resident Vijay Yadav, murdering Hajipur resident Qayumuddin Ansari, and pulling off several extortion attempts in Patna and elsewhere

Farmers' Fair Opens at Gandhi Maidan

Amidst the presence of thousands of farmers from across the state, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday inaugurated the Kisan Mela at Patna's Gandhi Maidan and gave away high-quality seeds of wheat, dal, and chana to the farmers.Kumar, in his keynote speech, once again reiterated his dream of having a food item from Bihar in each and every single kitchen or dining table of the nation."This is not a daydream; it is quite achievable if we continue to follow the guidelines as set in the Agricultural Road Map as devised by our administration," he said adding Bihar would achieve its goal of 'Rainbow Revolution' by 2015 making the state self-sufficient in food production while also emerging as one of the largest exporters of rice, wheat, and other staple items to other states. The Chief Minister also admonished the cold storage owners in the wake of thousands of kilograms of potatoes going bad prompting the Opposition leaders to wage a war on the Nitish government for being 'reckless' and 'ignoring the interests of the farmers'."We will take harsh actions against all cold storage owners for failing to protect potatoes thus causing immense financial loss to many farmers," Kumar said.Taking a shot at the Opposition leaders, the Chief Minister said that he had no intention of getting into a shouting match with his opponents who, he said, had nothing much to do but to oppose every move of the ruling government."I will continue to work for the people of Bihar without worrying about my distracters. It is not that I cannot give them a befitting reply; it is just that my goal is to put Bihar back on the path of development after what my immediate predecessors did to our state," he said.Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi and Agriculture Minister Nagmani were also present at the occasion.

One Lesbian Teen's Story

Here's Jo's story of how she was outed at her school and how she dealt with the situation:
"At the time I was 15 and I had been trying to get with a boy for about six months but he had me on hold. The only people I was out to was my best friend Vanessa and my friend Dee Dee. One day Dee Dee told me that a friend of hers, whom I had a major crush on, liked me and introduced us. Two days later Anisha became my very first girlfriend. One day before third period the boy I wanted to get with saw us kissing goodbye. That day at lunch I was sitting eating and all of a sudden everyone at one table turned and looked at me once. A boy named Sam came up to me and said, "Is it true?" I nodded. He said, "Stand up, you see all these n****s in here and you wit a female?"
That was Friday, by Monday the whole school knew. I was a lucky one in that I haven't been teased much. I still get the looks and the whispers, but mostly all of my friends stayed by me and continue to do so.
So school life was fine, but then my mother found out. Total melt down could be the word. Think of a mother taking her 15 year old daughter coming out in the worst possible way and times that by about 20 and you have how my deeply religious mother took it.
I am now 17 and out to everyone I know and outed to those I meet by my 15 year friend Jon who introduces me as his "Cool lesbian Jo." I have been kicked out of my house and live with my best friend Vanessa. My mother keeps in contact with me. My stepdad and I haven't talked in four months and my real father loves my girlfriend. My younger brother and sister couldn't care less who I'm with as long as I'm happy

Lesbians

I am 19 years old, graduated just last year, and I am completely out to almost everyone I know. I've been told I don't know what I want because I'm just a teenager and it's just a phase. But ever since I was little I always noticed that while other girls were giggling over the new boy or playing on the swing set, I was beating up the boys and playing with little bugs. When I was younger I didn't know the words 'lesbian' or 'gay' but I knew the word homosexual and I didn't even know what it meant. I was only ever told that it was a mental disorder and was something I should hope I didn't 'catch'.
My First KissI never knew why I didn't think guys were so great and always felt weird when we had to pair up to learn a dance or something. I liked hanging out with guys, I just never thought they were cute or fun to be around. I couldn't tell anyone that I thought girls were cute and always just wanted to play with them because I didn't know that's what it was. My first actual kiss with a girl was with one of my best friends at the time but I didn't think anything of it because I'd seen girls give each other little kisses all the time.
When I was 10 I had my first boyfriend, we never held hands, we never kissed, and we never did anything that would signify we were dating what so ever. After about two and a half years I told him I was sorry but we really were just good friends and we weren't really dating anyways. He agreed and we're still friends to this day. When I was 13 I had my first kiss with a boy, it was like I felt nothing, I mean I definitely didn't want another one, but girls my age were supposed to be kissed by guys, so I went along with it. Finally when I hit 15 I went to put on a performance and was meeting two other girls in our group when I met her. She was a cute girl about my height, my age exactly with short sandy blonde hair and the clearest blue eyes I'd ever seen. The only thing was I didn't even notice her I was so wrapped up in getting our dance moves right. Later on after the performance the girl asked me to come to the arcade with her and dink around for a little bit. So over that weekend we talked and had a great time.
My First Real CrushOver the next week or so we talked almost every day on the phone and on the computer. And we were joking around like normal and I said she was mine jokingly, she asked me then "If I'm yours then why don't you go out with me?" I literally stopped breathing for who knows how long. I didn't know what to say or do, or even think. So I asked her to give me until that Friday when I went over to her house. I'd never thought of going out with girls but between the time we hung out and when she asked me that, I had kissed her a few times randomly, just innocent little kisses. And as slow as I am I didn't put two and two together that this was my first real crush, and that I really liked her.
So when I went over to her place that Friday her best friend asked if we were official now, the girl said she didn't know but she hoped so. She looked to me and I told her she was right. We went out for about a year and a half before my mom finally found out. At first my mom was terrified and told me I didn't know what I was doing. Now however she tells me if I'm stressed then I probably just need a girlfriend. Me and my first girlfriend went out for three whole years before she finally told me she didn't love me anymore. In those three years she cheated on me twice, I forgave her twice, she hurt me in more ways than I could ever imagine, but I was so in love with her I could forgive anything as long as she stayed with me. I've had three girlfriends since her, but still I've yet to feel the intense and unconditional love I felt for my blonde, blue eyed lover.
Today I am out to pretty much my entire family, no one I know outside my family doesn't know, and I am happily single at the moment. I am in college and focusing on myself for now, but I'm still always open to sweet loving girls who like me for me. I am a full-blown lesbian who's not ashamed to admit it.

Make room for special kids

Aranya is eight and in her drawings, elephants can fly. She enjoys art and has a vivid imagination, but when it comes to her studies, she struggles with writing and concentration. Aranya is suffering from Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), a neuro-behavioural developmental disorder. The condition manifests itself during childhood and is characterised by a persistent pattern of inattention, forgetfulness, poor impulse control and distraction. Often children like Aranya are labelled 'lazy' or 'dumb' although they are neither. "My daughter is very creative. She loves painting animals and working with clay. All she needs is a little more time to grasp her lessons. It is unfortunate that in the pursuit of high scores the power of the imagination is under-estimated," says Aranya's mother. Every child is unique and has his/her own needs. While some need more help to learn and take longer, in the end, they can all learn. "No two children learn the same way. A child has to discover how she/he learns best. There are three ways in which we learn and remember things – by seeing, hearing or doing," says Geet Oberoi, founder-president, Orkids, The Multidisciplinary Clinic. Children with special educational needs (SEN) find learning more difficult than the majority of children their age. Although the reasons could be diverse, what is most important is that nearly all these children can reach their full potential with additional support and understanding. NO CHARITY, PLEASE Inclusive education means every child irrespective of gender, religion, socio-economic background or needs has the right to attend a mainstream school. Though the government claims to ensure education for every child, schools still lack an inclusive environment where students with different learning needs are made to feel welcome. Oberoi, however, cautions that though inclusive education is the new mantra, it is not a given that all children with special needs would benefit from it. Instead, she says, "We need to focus on a child's specific needs and then analyse how a mainstream classroom can benefit the child in his/her learning process." According to Satish Kapoor, founder-director, Brotherhood, "Inclusion is an extremely complex process as traditional ways of thinking and organising education are challenged at the deepest level. It denotes more than the physical placement of a child. It is the provision of educational services to all students in such a manner that all of them, with and without disability, belong, and are considered equal members of the classroom. Besides, society has an equally important role to play in achieving inclusion." Many schools follow an integrated approach rather than an inclusive one, which means that they have SEN departments within the school to assess children and accordingly provide extra learning support.

Sania vows to do whatever it takes to win Olympic medal

NEW DELHI: Carrying the hopes of a billion people is a 'privilege' for Sania Mirza and the Hyderabadi tennis ace vows to give everything it needs to bring home an individual Olympic medal, a feat only four Indians have managed since independence. Sania will compete in the strongest ever singles field, led by world number one Serb Ana Ivanovic, in the history of the quadrennial extravaganza and the young Indian knows well that the road ahead is full of challenges. Yet, she is determined to live up to the expectations. "Winning an Olympic medal in any discipline is not easy and the women's singles field in tennis is very, very tough. Winning a medal in women's singles or doubles will have to be against all odds. "But as someone representing the country, it is my duty to do whatever I possibly can to try and achieve this glory for my country," Sania said in an interview. Whenever she enters the tennis courts, Sania knows the nation of one billion plus people is watching every movement curiously, but she says she does not buckle under the pressure. "...it is a tremendous honour to represent India at the Olympics but I believe I carry the hopes of my people in every event that I participate in, including the Grand Slams. The pressure is not new to me and I consider it a great privilege," she said. Sania has just recovered from a wrist injury, which put her out of action for three months and did not have a comeback she would have preferred. She did not go beyond second round in singles at any of the three tournaments, including Wimbledon, she played but had a good run in the doubles at the third Grand Slam of the year where she made her first quarter-final appearance along with Bethanie Mattek. Sania said she was concentrating to get into a perfect shape before the big event. "I'm playing in tournaments in Stanford, Los Angeles and Stockholm to get into the best shape I can before the Olympics." On her comeback and how her wrist was responding after the surgery, Sania says, "The power is gradually coming back and the control is better but it may still take me a few weeks before I'm back to the level I was playing at before my injury. "When I underwent the surgery barely three months ago, I'd never imagined that I would be back competing at the highest level so soon and I'm happy with my comeback although I'm still finding my way around." She attributes her best doubles result at a Grand Slam to difference in intensity at doubles competition. "Doubles is comparatively easier as the physical effort required to compete is not as demanding as in singles, in which even a minor injury can be ruthlessly exposed," she said. So far, whenever Sania claimed she is playing best tennis of her career, one or other injury halted her good run. Reacting to this, the Hyderabadi girl said the gruels and demands of professional tennis make player vulnerable to injuries. "It is unfortunate but almost everyone in the top-100 is struggling with injuries. In order to compete today at the highest level, one needs to push one's body to the limit and in doing so, we expose ourselves to various kinds of injuries. "It's a professional hazard and there are no guarantees to our physical well being," she said. Apart from singles, Sania would also compete in the doubles event at Olympics as the International Tennis Federation have given her and Sunitha Rao a wild card entry. Sania and Sunitha have hardly been seen together as they play different tournaments due to difference in rankings. And unfortunately they can not pair up to play in any tournament ahead of Olympics. However, Sania is not bothered about lack of match practice with the US-based Sunitha, who is India's second best woman player. "We will practise together in Beijing but there does not seem to be a possibility of us playing together in tournaments before the Olympics. We have not played together since a very long time but Sunitha has had some good results in doubles recently and I'm looking forward to playing with her. "For me, sport is more about trying to capitalise on whatever opportunities one gets and not cribbing about what we do not or could not have.

Ways to make your first date a success

So your efforts have paid off and the girl of your dreams has not only noticed you but also agreed to go on a date with you! Good going mate! But remember your first date behaviour is important, as how you behave on your first date will ensure whether you will get a second and a third date with her! So here's how you can go about making your first date, memorable and second-dateworthy!

Be on time: If you have agreed to pick her up, be there on time. She might keep you waiting, but grin and bear, after all it’s a woman’s privilege to keep her guy waiting! But your coming on time will impress her and she will count you as a reliable guy. Also wear a watch, you might have your cell for the time, but wearing a watch and that too a decent brand will say something to her about your personal style and will convey the message of the importance you attach to time. If you are going to her house to pick her up, then your date isn’t a secret, then your punctuality will make an impression on her parents as well, as older people give a lot of importance to such matters.

Be generous with compliments: As soon as she steps out, pay her a compliment. But be warned, do not overdo it or it will ring false. Make it genuine and let it come from the heart. Another point to note, don’t make very obvious comments, try and be a little clever. For eg: Tell her how well she carries herself and how she stands out in the crowd! Genuine compliments delivered with panache will stay in her mind for a long time. Otherwise the your-eyes-are-beautiful kind of compliments will be forgotton, because she’s sure to have heard it before!

Remember her choices: Suppose the two of you go for a long drive and then park for ice-cream, let her stay in the car and you surprise her by getting her favourite flavour. This will not only floor her but will also make you seem like a guy who cared enough to remember. A good cement for further bonding!

Be a good listener: Pay attention to what she is saying. Listen intently, ask the right questions. Don’t interrupt when she is speaking. In short, give undivided attention. Look into her eyes when she is talking, but in a dreamy way, don’t stare, you will scare her! When she is saying something cute, touch her hands lightly and smile. When she says something funny, compliment her sense of humour. You will soon have her eating out of your hands!

Don’t show off: You might be having the cushiest job, or the richest parents or the swankiest car, whatever, but don’t show off. Girls get put off by arrogance and show offs. Be modest. Be courteous. Be chivalrous. These matter far more than all your wealth!

Keep a distance: Don’t get too personal on your first date. Also keep your hands to yourself. Wait to get to know her better. And if you wish to hold her hand ask for permission. If you act too fresh on the first date, chances are you will never see her again!

Cosmic sex soon to be reality.

With US agency NASA and several other countries planning more and more space missions, scientists have started to debate on the possibility of cosmic sex
Though nobody claims to know whether it has already happened, some experts believe that sex in space is inevitable. Jason Kring of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Florida, who studies the psychological effects of long-duration space missions, is just not ready to accept that astronauts cannot have sexual feelings while on a three-year mission to Mars. "To say that astronauts are some superior beings who cannot have interests in any kind of sexual feelings for three years ... I just don''''t buy it," Live Science quoted him as saying. The report also highlighted the fact that space agencies were gradually inclining towards sending more and more mixed crews of men and women in space, with studies suggesting that they are better at performing the tasks assigned to them. "They''''re mission-oriented. They''''re very focused on the task at hand," said NASA spokesperson Nicole Cloutier-Lemasters of the Johnson Space Center. Kring, however, said that sexual frustration could ensue. "Human sexuality is a basic need and now you''''re trying to tell people, ''''Hey for three years, you can''''t do that.'''' They''''re going to figure out a way to do it," he said. Lawrence Palinkas, a professor of social work, anthropology and preventive medicine at UCLA, pointed out that there was "no official policy" at NASA regarding sex on space missions. "There really has been no research conducted on the area to know whether it (sex in space) would be a good thing or a bad thing, but it probably is inevitable," he said. Science journalist Laura Woodmansee, the writer of ‘Sex in Space’ that was published in 2006, predicts "honeymoons in space and out-of-this-world sex will be a reality within a decade." The book describes several positions that might work during cosmic copulation, ranging from the modified missionary position to seated with "interlocking Y legs". She writes that props also could come into play, including a shared elastic waistband or tethers to hold one partner to a stable structure.

Lord's revamp to cost 200 mn pounds

The revamp plan will see a new-look ground with floodlights, extended stands, and a major new residential development along the Wellington RoadLondon: The cost of revamping the hallowed Lord's cricket ground here is estimated at 200 million pounds and the project will take 10 years to complete, a media report said on Saturday. The Marylebone Cricket Clyub (MCC) appointed Herzog and de Meuron — a celebrated Swiss construction firm — that will now consult the London mayor's office over the revamp plans which are expected to change the face of the ground, The Daily Telegraph reported on Saturday. The revamp plan will see a new-look ground with floodlights, extended stands, and a major new residential development along the Wellington Road. But all this will need permission from the Westminster Council since St John's Wood is a strictly controlled conservation area."There is always bound to be a bargaining process with the council," David Batts, the director of the masterplan, was quoted as saying by the daily."Herzog and de Meuron designed the Tate Modern and that has become a destination in its own right," he added. "People go there just to have a coffee, not necessarily to look at the paintings. We hope it's the case here, especially if we have got a hotel of our own."The plans were based only early working models, which will be refined before anything can be taken to Westminster Council. But they still impressed the MCC committee, especially proposals to have a suspended walkway, some 20 feet in the air, running around 80 per cent of the ground. With an extra 10,000 seats also part of the plan, there has to be some solution to the rush that develops on major match days. One of the key ideas of the blueprint involves the development of two disused railway tunnels under the nursery ground, which are likely to be turned into a sports injury clinic in partnership with the adjoining Wellington Hospital.

Indo-Nepal Meet

On the second and concluding day of the ongoing seminar on the "Emerging Trends in India-Nepal Relations", Union Minister of State for Commerce and Power Jairam Ramesh talked about the need for expanded trade between the two nations while offering technical and financial assistance in energy and water management areas.Promising to ease trade tariff between India and Nepal, Ramesh said that it was alarming to note that while India was exporting goods worth over $930 million to Nepal, it imported items from Nepal only about one-third of its export."This disparity must be overcome and the Government of India is willing to play its role in fostering better trade relations with its neighbors," the Union Minister said.Suggesting a liberal economic policy for Nepal, Ramesh said Indian industries should be allowed to invest in Nepal that, in turn, could sell the goods back to India thus bringing some balance to its export-import ratio.Several Indian companies have already reached agreement with the Nepalese government for improvement in the power sector, the minister said adding Nepal would benefit from the added power production while selling off any surplus power to India.Ramesh also talked about building four check posts on Indo-Nepal border and a 1,500 kilometer road connection between the two neighboring nations to enhance bilateral trade.

Female condom

Female condom for Rs 5 in India
New Delhi: A five-rupee female condom (FC) will now spearhead India’s fight to control HIV spread among women.
Under the first phase, the National AIDS Control Organization (NACO) is procuring 15 lakh female condoms from UK’s Female Health Company (FHC), which will be doled out to sex workers and housewives in Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal over the next 8 months. A decision on a countrywide upscale will be undertaken after reviewing data from these four stares.
According to NACO director general K Sujatha Rao, a year long pre-programme acceptability and feasibility study, involving 60,000 women in 13 sites- 11 involving high risk groups like sex workers and two family planning programme4s – in eight states from November eight states from November 2006, found 60% women re-purchasing the condom and over 98% of the users finding it comfortable. Naco though UNFPA had procured five lakh condoms from FHC for its acceptability study.
Rao told : “The pilot project was highly successful showing consistent use of FCs. We have, therefore, decided to scale up the programme under which we will first train women on how to use these condoms.”
Union health minister A Ramadoss Said : “ When a male partner refuses to wear a condom, women need self-initiated methods to protect themselves against unplanned pregnancies and HIV/AIDS.”
According to Manoj Gopalkrishna from Hindustan Latex Limited, India till now imported FCs making them expensive. “We have now set up an FC manufacturing unit in Kochi. FHC has transferred the condom manufacturing technology to us. We will manufacture 10 million FCs annually. Though the cost of making each condom will be Rs 40, it will be available to women for Rs 5 through 200 NGO-led targeted interventions.”
Esther Bayliss from the Female Health Foundation told : “Female Condoms – FC1 and FC2 – are the only ones approved by US FDA and WHO. These condoms are the first and only female-initiated barrier method that is safe and effective if used correctly and consistently providing dual protection against the transmission of sexually transmitted infections, including HIV/AIDS and unintended pregnancy.”
Nearly 40% of the 2.5 million HIV Positive victims living in India are women, most of them hapless housewives who don’t look at their husbands as a threat and commercial sex workers unable to negotiate with clients refusing to use a condom.
DRIVE AGAINST AIDS
1. Female condom was first introduced in Europe and the US in 1992-93.
2.It was introduced in Asia only after 2000.
3.It is still not widely accepted, the main reasons being cost, acceptability by both women and men and confusion over the method of usage.

UNEQUAL PARTNERS

" Walking up is hard to do but if the urban Indian Man doesn't want to lose his wife. It's time he did, Marraige seems to have given him a licence to thrill, Even as it seems to have caged the woman's spirit. [55% Men Prefer the man on Top position while 19% like the women being on top.]
They were young, educated, and both virgins on this, their wedding night, and they lived in a time when conversation about sexual difficulties was plainly difficult. But it is never easy.
Ian McEwan was writing about a couple in 1962 Englandin "On Chesil Beach"(he, er, arrives too soon in bed and she runs away in disgust), but he may well be speaking of thousands of contemporary marriages in India. The INDIA TODAY AC Nielsen-ORG-MARG Survey of Urban Marriage. If love is the triumph of imagination over intelligence, then the Urban Indian marriage is the victory of opportunity over occasion. Greater infidelity on the part of men, increasing resistance of the woman to coercive sex, even the lessening appeal of the woman post marriage are all indicative of a relationship under tremendous strain. The men and women are at odds with each other, not just in the act but also in attitude, creating an unequal partnership where there should be comfot- giving compatibility. While 52% of the men say they have sex thrice a week, only 27% of the women agree, a yawning gap not explained entirely by the man's braggadocio. What's more, 39% of the women are bored with sex in marriage. Almost 40% of the married women said their partner's pleasure was more important than their own. Such timidity in the bedroom seems to have emboldened the men believe it is, their marital right to have sex, again consistent with the response in 2004. As for women professionals in nuclear families, they have it bad both ways, points out sociologist Shiv Visvanathan, lacking both the protection of the joint family and being subjected to husbands who seem to be distracted by the seductions of the city.
None of the traditional stereotypes seem to have changed, especially when it comes to men. More than half the men interviewed believe housewives have better married lives compared to working women. While 48% of working women think that housewives won't necessarily have better married lives. Add to the act of sex itself being hasty (70% spend less than 10 minutes on foreplay compared to a majority of American couples spemding over 25 minutes making love) and where exactly does that leave the principle of the lesure in marriage? more preciselu where does that leave marriage, still over whelmingly arranged for Indians who cearly sem to regard the institution as a family rather than an individual unit? Especially when the survey shows that the family that stays together doesn't stray- couples who live in jount families tend to have more sex than those in nuclear families.
Clearly, the woman's sentiments have outstripped her circumstances. If in the 2003 survey 57% of the wimen said an orgasm was important for their sexual fulfilment, now a mere 28% say they always hace an orgasm. Yet, they are more open to foreplay and ae also willing to talk about it thes year. From 27% women in 2003 pleadng ignorance about foreplay, only 11% didn't know about it today.
  • 50 % OF COUPLES BELIEVE SEX IS A SOURCE OF PLEASURE.
  • 26 % OF COUPLES WHO HAD LOVE MARRIAGES ADMITTED HAVING EXTRA MARITAL AFFAIRS.

Anti-Thackeray Feelings

Anti-Thackeray Feelings Continues to Grow in Bihar

Anger directed towards Maharashtra Navnirman Sena leader Raj Thackeray spilled over into the weekend as several private and political groups in Patna on Saturday burnt the effigies of the separatist Marathi leader for making uncharitable remarks towards Bihar's most revered festival Chhath. The women's wing of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), demanding arrest of Thackeray for trying to divide the nation on regional basis, burnt his effigy at the Income Tax roundabout.Members of the state Samajwadi Party (Students' wing) also burnt Thackeray's effigy while calling him a bigot and a racist."This man, like his uncle, has completely lost his mind and the only place for him is to keep him confined either in a jail or a mental institution," said the students' leader Ranjit Kumar.Meanwhile, Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) leaders, at a party meet on Saturday, condemned Thackeray's anti-Bihar statement saying Chhath was even more important to Biharis than the Ganesh Utsav was to Maharashtrians. "How would Thackeray and his ilk feel if we said the entire Ganesh festival in Maharashtra was a drama?" asked party state general secretary Vijay Kumar Singh."Thackeray must apologize to Biharis worldwide for hurting their religious sentiments and if he failed to do so, we will take our agitation from the streets of Patna to the streets of Mumbai because Maharashtra is not the personal property of Thackeray, his equally-deranged uncle or any other person for that matter," said Singh. As reported before, Thackeray, during his usual rant against non-Maharashtrians in Maharashtra a few days ago that has earned him the title of Ayatollah of Maharashtra, among many others not suitable for publication, had said that Chhath was more of a drama and had no religious relevance. His statement sparked a statewide protest with leaders like Nitish Kumar, Lalu Prasad Yadav, and Ram Vilas Paswan showing complete unanimity in condemning Thackeray. In his zeal to grab the title of the 'godfather of Mumbai' from his ailing uncle Bal Thackeray, the separatist leader also took the Hindi film superstar Amitabh Bachchan to task saying that the fact he was acting as the brand ambassador of Uttar Pradesh, Bachchan was betraying the state of Maharashtra that gave him food, roof, money, and fame.

Threaten Bhojpuri Star

Raj Thackeray's Goons Threaten Bhojpuri Star

Alleged goons on the payroll of separatist Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) leader Raj Thackeray, on Monday, issued threats to Bhojpuri film star Manoj Tiwari in Mumbai ordering him to stay from a rally organized at Shivaji Park in Dadar 'or face dire consequences', reports from Mumbai said.A spokesperson for Tiwari, Shashikant Singh said this was the second threat issued to the Bhojpuri star in less than 24 hours, each time the caller asking him to not attend the rally though that did not deter Tiwari from attending the rally that was anything but political.Tiwari who, besides being an actor, is also a decent singer, performed on the stage amidst moderate security."I am an entertainer, not a politician and as such, I should not be associated with any particular political party," Tiwari is said to have told the maker of the threatening call. Also on Monday, Raj Thackeray's henchmen in Mumbai on Monday clashed with Samajwadi Party workers and beat up taxi drivers from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.Meanwhile in Patna, a number of protests were organized to condemn Raj Thackeray and what he stands for.Effigies of the idiot-in-chief, as many leaders in Bihar described the MNS leader, were burnt and protests were organized by nearly all political parties including the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Congress, Janata Dal – U, Samajwadi Party, and even Shiv Sena, the parent organization of Thackeray, that demanded arrest of Raj Thackeray and a public condemnation of his actions and words by the Prime Minister of India Manmohan Singh. As reported earlier, Thackeray, the nephew of Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray, had said that Chhath, Bihar's most revered festival, was more of a drama and had no religious relevance. In a related development, a Patna court on Monday heard a petition filed against Thackeray by a Patna resident Vidya Kumari who is seeking arrest of the MNS chief for spreading communal hatred and insulting the religious sentiments of the people of Bihar, Jharkhand, and Uttar Pradesh. After hearing the arguments by the prosecution presented by senior lawyers Arvind Kumar and K. D. Mishra, the court adjourned until February 13.

Nitish lashes out

Nitish lashes out at Raj Thackeray

Shedding his usual persona of a mild-mannered politician, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Monday took a tough stance on the controversy concerning Raj Thackeray stating Mumbai would be destroyed if the so-called 'outsiders' were kicked out of Maharashtra as Thackeray had been promoting since his unceremonious departure from the Shiv Sena.Calling the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief a 'devil-incarnate', Kumar, during a press conference following his weekly Janata Durbar in Patna, reminded Thackeray that Mumbai or Maharashtra was not anyone's personal property and each citizen of India was well within his or her right to live and earn a living in any part of the country without fear of any backlash based on religion or region. The Chief Minister asked the Maharashtra government to take stern measures against Thackeray 'before it is too late'."While I think there is no need of it yet, if needed, however, I will not hesitate in taking up this issue with the Home Ministry. Thackeray's actions are clear instances of attempts to disturb peace in the nation and such acts must be nipped in the bud," he said adding a man (Thackeray) who did not know the ABC of the Indian culture, it was too much to expect from him to understand the religious importance of Chhath.Other leaders in Bihar also lashed out at Thackeray showering him with names like idiot, bigot, racist, Nazi, and 'shaitaan'.Congress leader Kripanath Pathak, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) general secretary Mrityunjay Kumar, Janata Dal – U leader Vijaya Singh, and Shiv Sena leader Arun Kumar Gupta and leaders of the Muslim United Front called for Thackeray's arrest while burning his effigy at various places in the state capital.

Ajit Sarkar

Verdict on Ajit Sarkar Murder Case on Feb. 14

A special CBI Court in Patna on Monday, after hearing the closing arguments from both defense and prosecution teams, set February 14 as the date for announcing the verdict in the decade-old Ajit Sarkar murder case in which the then Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP Pappu Yadav, former legislator Rajan Tiwari, and Anil Yadav remain the key accused. While Tiwari and Yadav, who currently make Patna's Beur Jail their homes, were present during the hearing, Pappu Yadav, who remains incarcerated at Delhi's Tihar Jail, could not make his virtual appearance due to technical snag in the video-conferencing equipment.During the hearing in the court of special CBI judge Virendra Mohan Srivastava, Mumbai's prominent advocate Majid Menon presented the classic argument saying his client, Pappu Yadav, was innocent and was falsely implicated in the case. The defense represented by the CBI advocate Rakesh Kumar, however, said that based on the witnesses accounts, it was an open and shut case against Yadav and the other two key accused. The case relates to the gunning down of Communist Party of India – Marxist leader Ajit Kumar and two others on June 14, 1998 in Purnia. The court also ordered the Tihar Jail Superintendent to produce Pappu Yadav in Patna court on February 14.

LAST WORD OF MAHATMA GANDHI

MAHATMA GANDHI

PATNA JUNCTION
